Practical Alternative Provision in Harrogate for 11–16 Year Olds
Hands-on trade skills for young people who learn best by doing.
At our workshop in Pannal, Harrogate, secondary-aged pupils learn plumbing, joinery, electrics, bricklaying and dry stone walling. Along the way, they discover how Maths, English and Science work in the real world.
Who we help
We work with schools across Harrogate, North Yorkshire and north Leeds, and with home-educating families.
Our sessions suit young people who:
• find mainstream school a struggle
• have SEND or an EHCP
• are home educated
• thrive with practical, hands-on learning
• are thinking about a future in the trades
You don't need to want a career in construction to benefit. Every pupil leaves with real skills, more confidence and pride in what they've achieved.
A day at Core Trade Skills
Each session is a full school day. Pupils are welcomed, signed in and given a name badge, then we talk through the day together.
They work through practical job sheets, such as fixing a sink trap, wiring a plug or building a stone wall. All PPE is provided.
We always sit down for lunch together, which is a great time to chat and build social skills. Sessions are planned around each pupil's age and experience, so every visit builds on the last.
